HIGHLANDS RANCH TURKEY DAY 5K 2022

On Thursday, November 24th, Colorado ARES R1D5 (aka ARESDEC) provided safety communications for the Highlands Ranch Turkey Day 5K race. Seventeen (17) ARESDEC members got up early on Thanksgiving Day to volunteer their communication services in temperatures that were flirting around the freezing mark. Over 1400 participants ran, walked or otherwise transported themselves over the 5K course which starts and finishes at Redstone Park. The event takes place within a fairly small area, so Communications is easily carried out on a simplex UHF frequency. The ARESDEC communications trailer serves as the Command Post for the event. The annual Highlands Ranch Turkey Day 5K is usually the last ARESDEC planned communications event of the year for a served agency.
