Map & Navigation Workshop by DC SAR

For a change of pace and some skills building, two members of Douglas County Search and Rescue (SAR) – Mike McDonald/K0LPM and Barry Mitchell/N0KV – are delivering a four-hour long classroom/field workshop for us Saturday July 8^th at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility (HRLETF).

WORKSHOP CONTENT

Originally, our workshop was titled “Orienteering for ARES” and was going to be more field focused. However, when developing the workshop Mike and Barry determined the training would be more useful to ARES if we spent a little more time in classroom on land nav basics and on-line mapping sources. The workshop was re-structured and given the title “Basic Map and Navigation Skills”. It still includes an outside component that will be completed at the law enforcement training facility.

WHAT TO BRING

– Notepad and pen/pencil

– Your smartphone of course

– If you have an old school magnetic compass, bring it

– Sunscreen

– A small day pack or grocery bag with handles if you don’t have a small pack

– Beverages. Bottled water, coffee, soda, etc.

– Snacks as desired.

“Power Rings” will be available before the start of workshop.

Building Entry: Enter the SOUTH door of Building G, Door will be unlocked by 0830.
