On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 0900, ARESDEC members gathered together to attend a DMR firmware and code plug update workshop. The workshop was organized by ARESDEC Training Officer Wade Forbush (K0WJF) and took place at the Parker United Methodist Church in Parker.
Those in attendance were taught by our own in-house speaker Jerry AG7U who spoke about the topic of Roaming and how to implement it on Anytone 578/868/878 model radios. Thirteen ARESDEC members were in attendance with various DMR experience levels. After the Roaming presentation, people broke out their radios and proceeded to help each other complete needed firmware and code plug updates. There were several helpful tips and techniques shared during the course of the workshop.
The workshop was such a success that the group elected to make this an annual event. For next year, we’ll open it up to both Analog and DMR radios so we can update our code plugs with any new frequencies added to the most recent ARESDEC ICS-217A. Our goal is to start our active season of planned events with our radios all working as expected.
It is fair to say that everyone learned something from the event and the lively discussion throughout the presentation highlighted the group’s shared experiences (good and bad) with DMR. This event also gave us a good excuse to eat some donuts and build camaraderie. After the workshop several members joined together at a local eatery where DMR discussions continued along with several laughs and a good meal. Come join us next year!
